The Intensive Course on Interpreting and Translation (ICIT2) is built on a simple conviction: becoming a competent interpreter requires more than language fluency. It requires understanding codes of ethics, managing psychological demands, navigating cultural nuance, and applying the right technique for the right setting.
A unique feature of ICIT2 is its Day Two live court visit — students observe and practise in a real court environment, an experience most training programmes simply do not offer.
Requirements
Basic literacy in working languages
Willingness to participate in role-plays
No formal qualification required
Lead Instructor
Rakesh Khambhaita
Rakesh brings over 25 years of active experience as a court, police and public sector interpreter. Every element of the ICIT2 programme — the sequence, the exercises, the court visit, and the ethics discussions — reflects real-world practice.
Real Feedback from ICIT2 Students
Unedited feedback from students who completed ICIT2 at Goodwin Development Trust.
"Every minute taught all of us something new in a very approachable style."
Mridul Chopra
"Far more interactive than any other course I have been on."
Agne Stepsyte

Katalin Szilagyi
"We got life experience in reality, not just writing information on paper."

About Rakesh
Rakesh Khambhaita has been working as a professional interpreter and translator for over 25 years, specialising in the legal, criminal justice and public sector fields. He has worked extensively across Crown Courts, Magistrates' Courts, Police PACE interview suites, HM Prisons, NHS hospitals and immigration tribunals throughout England and Wales.
A fluent Gujarati and Hindi interpreter, Rakesh has handled some of the most complex, sensitive and high-profile multilingual cases in the UK, earning a reputation for absolute reliability, impartiality and cultural precision under pressure.
He founded Beyond Translation to address a gap he observed throughout his career: a lack of agencies that genuinely understood the public sector environment — its protocols, its ethical demands, and the real consequences of poor language provision.
As the architect and lead instructor of the ICIT2 training programme, Rakesh now dedicates part of his practice to raising the standard of entry-level interpreters entering public sector work — ensuring the next generation is properly equipped.
